The following is my flash Friday fiction.  1000 words, random themes and items.  For this story, I randomly had: Themes: Swords & Sorcery and Picaresque.   Items: Mythical Bird and an Ancient Book.  Enjoy.

It was never my intention to learn of magical things or set out on an amazing adventure.  I just wanted to rob the guy.  He had other plans.   Continue reading →

For some reason, it seems like waiting for the bus in the early morning hours brings out more strange people than mid-day.

A man walking by, jingling change, wearing a rucksack, and repeatedly asking if anyone had cigarettes for sale.   Continue reading →

I remember the days of my youth.  That awkward stage between being a child and grown.  Body changing, brain changing, there was so much going on.  It was a time when I finally started to get a taste of freedom and independence.

I remember having crushes.  The racing of my heart as a boy I liked talked to me or accidentally touched my hand.  The “does he like me?” conundrum.  You can’t ask, for fear of revealing yourself, but you want it more than anything.   Continue reading →

Taking different buses this evening. I cut back my hours at work from full time to part time so that I’d have my afternoons free to apply at restaurants. This means that I have to wake up and go into work on an extra early shift. But it’ll be worth it. I hope.

So after an early day, I got off of work at 12:30. Which is great. Makes the day longer. Almost makes it feel like I didn’t even go. My guy took the bus and met me in Santa Monica for lunch. Then, from 2-4 walked around and applied at places (because that’s the way that you have to apply to most restaurants for some reason).   Continue reading →

Someone just brought a vacuum onto the bus. Curious. Also, I hope this bus takes me where I need to go. I’ve got this bad habit of jumping on buses just because they show up and I recognize the number. I’m not on the bus that I’m supposed to take. But I’m pretty sure this goes to the stop I need. Hopefully at the right time.

I have been concerned for a while now that the job I’ve recently taken doesn’t pay enough to sustain me. After trying it out a few weeks, I’ve come to the conclusion that that’s correct. Sadly, I must start the hunt again.   Continue reading →

My bus was late today, making me miss my transfer. Luckily, there was one not long after. Thank goodness for smart phones or I’d never find my way.

Happy hour. I guess this is a natural part of working in an office. Everyone gets wound up, frustrated, depressed from sitting in a box all day. Occasionally, you have to let it all out. For some reason, despite spending forty hours a week in close proximity to the same people, they want to spend a few hours more.   Continue reading →

It seems like sitting at the front of the bus is an invitation for people to sit by you. It makes sense, people don’t want to walk very far. Last week I had a man, who I don’t believe spoke English, dresses as a cowboy of sorts, asked me to move over so he could sit next to me, despite the bus being nearly empty. Of course, I did.   Continue reading →

Disoriented, Kara stood naked in the scrub land. She turned in circles, letting her eyes adjust to the bright sun of this world. In the distance she could see the mass of people she had just left. Confusion seemed to be a common symptom from the journey. The guard that had been chasing her fell to the ground and began to vomit. Easily finding her land legs, she was handling the trip far better than him. Realizing this, she saw that it was her opportunity to get away. So she ran.   Continue reading →

Holding her notification in one hand, and a butcher’s knife in the other, Alyssa Lane carefully maneuvered a surgical mask over her face.  She prayed that the thin barrier would be enough to protect her from the airborne toxins outside.  She had stayed healthy this long, and cursed that she had to jeopardize her life in order to save it.   Continue reading →
