I saw the movie Transcendence the day that it came out.  The theater has been lacking in movies that past few months.  Now that the good ones are starting to come out, I have the impulse to see them right away.  A midnight showing isn’t too late for me.  The following review contains SPOILERS, so read with caution.   Continue reading →

So, I suppose it’s the end of the month.  Maybe I should be doing updates for May?  But I don’t really know what’s in store for next month.  I suppose, in a lot of ways, I live my life day to day.  A lot of the time I think it’d be better if I could plan for the future a bit more.  But, I guess there’s something to be said for living in the moment.  Right?

Last Week’s SS:  Lonely No More

zombiesapien

“Do you like him?” Victoria asked.

I turned to the doorway and saw her standing there. I hadn’t heard her come in. I’d later learn from that momentary lack of vigilance. But in that moment, I was too elated to have my new lion friend. I smiled wide, then ran to her, wrapped my arms tight around, and hugged. She gave me a gentle pat on the head.  Continue reading →

Last Week’s FFF:  Indecisive

The veil of darkness was lifted from Steel’s vision, as the hood was removed. He breathed in the fresh oxygen. He had been sucking on his own recycled breath for over an hour. He stretched his neck and studied his new surroundings. There were two other men standing beside him. Their hair was tussled. Hood hair. Continue reading →

Last Week’s WW: You’ve Gotta Read

Most of the things that find their way onto this blog are in first draft status.  In fact, a lot of them are typed directly into wordpress text box, not copied and pasted from somewhere else.  It saves time, but can cause trouble.  As it was pointed out to me in the FFF – Dinozombie, I misused a few words, also know as homophones.  And thus, I was inspired for this weeks topic.   Continue reading →

I’ve decided to start a new weekly post that I’m calling Mention Monday.  Each week, I’ll review something that I think is mention-worthy.  It may be an author, a book, a book series, a movie… whatever I feel like.

For this first installment, I figured I’d start at the beginning. This is a little atypical for what I expect this series to be.  But since I’m reviewing things, I figured I’d start with my literary journey. Continue reading →

After my attempt to jump off the cliff, we went inside, she put me to bed, and not a word further was exchanged between us. I fell asleep fast as she went to make arrangements. Morning came. I parted my eyes and saw the fuzzy glow of the golden sun coming through my window. Victoria had let me sleep in. It was the first time that I could remember getting up after the sun. A small smile came to my face. Perhaps things really would be different.

My smile turned to a grimace of fear as I opened my eyes further. I was wrong about the golden haze. It wasn’t the sun. It was a lion, and he was staring me directly in the face.   Continue reading →

Last Week’s FFF: Dinozombie

Samuel loaded Cassidy’s bags above their seats. The trains storage area consisted of a flat surface and a rail. There was nothing to hold the bags in place other than their weight. Cassidy’s bag was more than heavy enough to ensure it wouldn’t slide around.

“Are you ready for this?” Samuel asked.

She folded the excessive fabric of her dresses skirt in front of her and wedged herself into her seat.

“I can’t stay here any longer. Too many memories,” she said.

Samuel brushed his long, leather jacket to the side and began to sit next to her. A hand stayed him. He turned to see a member of the train staff.

“Sorry sir, you’ll have to stow those,” the man said, pointing to the twin guns on his hips.   Continue reading →

Last Week’s WW: What About the Gun?

I took a few years off from reading.  I’m not sure how many exactly, but I know it was a long time.  It’s probably because I got bored.  And I got bored for two reasons.  One, I’m kind of a slow reader.  Two, I read Dean Koontz exclusively from the time I was eleven.

I went to the Writers of the Future Awards tonight. I almost didn’t. My guy had to work, so I was going alone. My social anxiety started to kick in. But, I persisted and went anyway. It was a much bigger, fancier event than I expected. It was a good show. Continue reading →
