Last Week’s WW: Where and How, Physically Speaking

Every author starts somewhere.  No matter how big, or how small, famous or flop, at some point, there is always a first book.  At some point, you have to gather all your courage, sign a contract or press the publish button, and send your story out into the world.  But is that enough?

author, beta, beta readers, feedback, looking for beta readers, novel, otherworlders, review, writer, writing

Hey all,

If anyone would like read my novel Otherworlders, please let me know and I’d be happy to send you a copy.  I just ask that you read it in a reasonable time frame and give me feedback.  I really want to release it soon, but I don’t feel like I’ve had enough eyes on it.

If you’re interested, email me at fictionbyangela at gmail dot com

You will have my gratitude and an acknowledgement in the book (if you want) if you beta read for me.

Thanks all.  I look forward to hearing from you.   Below is a description:

Tagline:  After finding no alternative but to leave their war-torn dimension, and attempting to adjust to a new world, those who made the journey find that they are not welcomed and have to fight for their lives and escape yet again.

Synopsis:  A man-made virus has been released. It’s destroying everything.  It adapts too quickly to fight. The only way to save those whom haven’t been infected yet, over a billion, is to send them to a parallel universe. The technology is untested. The other universe is unprepared.

When Agent Jackson Williams hears about the technology that a savant named Levi has discovered, he knows it’s their best chance at survival.

Kara, uninvited, makes her own way to this new world and assumes her double’s identity.  But crime and a strain on resources of this world is just the start of the trouble. The virus came, too.
With the death toll rising, the acceptance of the Otherworlders has run out.  Levi won’t build this universe a machine.  The government won’t let his people go without one.
Chase, a native to this new universe and an immigrant activist, forms a resistance with the Otherworlders and liberates Levi from custody.  With the precaution that it will be destroyed after use, a new machine is in the works.  Before they can turn it on, Chase has to keep a promise to save a young couple from human experimentation.

Their stories collide as they race to save their kind and escape this universe before this world’s Agent Williams tracks them down and kills them all.

Last Week’s MM: Terrible Minds

I am a nerd.  Since high school, maybe before, I have been into science.  I remember reading Stephen Hawking when I was 14, and having my mind blown.  I spent a brief period of time wanting to be a cosmologist or theoretical physicist.   I even looked at colleges.  But, then I decided that I’d either be making bombs or teaching at a college, which wasn’t anything I wanted to do at the time.  So, I changed my mind.  I took a brief detour into wanting to be a fashion designer, and then, by time I went to college, I went for psychology.  I’m right and left brained.  A combination of arts and science.  And, in a lot of ways, I think the show Cosmos is, as well.   Continue reading →

Last Week’s SS: The First Fight

Dealt

Outside of the house was nearly pitch black, with only the waning moon overhead lighting the night.  The new moon would beginning tomorrow.  It’d be a new beginning for me, as well.  If I lived that long.  Tears streamed down my face as I ran from the house.  Just outside I saw dead soldiers.   Continue reading →

Last Week’s FFF: Seven-Year Firestorm

storyt title

I want to say I felt cold.  Truth is, I didn’t feel anything.  That should have been a comfort.  But it was so easy to forget.

My mind and eyes seemed to be the only things working.  However, they weren’t working well.  My eyes were stuck, fixed looking up at the ceiling and anything that happened to pass into field of vision.  My mind felt like it was running on reserve power.  Not quiet enough to fuel the system, but enough to keep the smallest spark ignited.

I wanted to move.  My mind instructed my arms and legs to get me out of here.  At least sit me up.  But they wouldn’t listen.   Continue reading →

Last Week’s WW: Story Vs Storytelling

I’ve mentioned before that when I was in high school, I used to carry around a journal and write my stories in it in between classes.  I suppose I was anti-social.  Still am.  Sometimes, when I got home from school, my mom would ask me if I had gotten any phone numbers.  The answer was usually no.  But hey, change schools 11 times, and making friends either gets really easy or really hard.  For me, it was the latter.

But little did I know, those journals were the start of something.  Something other than my cubital tunnel.   Continue reading →

Last Week’s SS – Intruders

Dealt

Indecision overwhelmed my senses, and I could do nothing more then sneak another look into the room.  The man across from Victoria had his back to her and the guards.  He was inspecting our mantel.   Without turning, he spoke.  His voice was deep, but he spoke with a smooth, even tone.

“Did you find the girl?” he asked.

“She wasn’t in her room,” one of his men replied.

“Where is she?” he asked.

“I don’t know, sir.”

“I wasn’t talking to you.  I was talking to the Hierophant, if that is your real card.  Where is the child?”

“I don’t know about any child,” she said.   Continue reading →
