Last Week’s WW: Keep The Creativity Flowing
If you plan to be an author, some day you will publish. Maybe it’ll be with the Big Five, or perhaps you’ll self-published. Maybe you’re already published. However it happens, it’ll happen, and you’ll probably want to shout it from the roof top. You should do this, well, maybe not from the literal roof top, that could be dangerous. But you’re excited, and you have every right to be. Publishing is a huge accomplishment, be proud.
The thing is, not everyone will be as excited as you. Especially not the twentieth time you post the same status letting everyone know that your book is on sale.
Odds are that everyone that you personally know that will buy your book will do it either before it comes out (if you pre-sell or can convince them to read it for free) or will do it right after it comes out. I don’t have actual statistics on this, but it feels true from experience.
Is it bad to announce when you’re having a sale? No. It’s good to let people know. Could be that an interested person who missed it last time will see it this time. Sometimes ‘friends’ will share your sale so that all of their friends can see it. They will probably be much less enthused if you post it a few times a day, or even every day while you’re sale is on.
Okay, so, let’s say you’ve managed to ignore the compulsion to post it to your personal face book status again and again. That’s when we get into Facebook Groups. I have had to “block notifications” from most of the groups I’m in. Honestly, I’m not sure why I’m in them at this point. It’s annoying to log in and see that I have 20 notifications, and they’re all the same post copied and pasted to a bunch of different groups. Worse is when you’re on Facebook while they’re doing it and you see the notifications come in one by one.
In the past, I know that I, as well as others, have unfriended people over this. Facebook is getting better with being able to block people without unfriending them or block notifications from groups. But do you really want to make people block groups? Do you want to be blocked?
It’s also generally thought that spamming will only turn people off from buying your book. There’s a fine line between spreading the news and Spam. People don’t like Spam.
