They’ve got these TV screens on the bus. This one happens to be playing a report about a bus stabbing. Awesome. Great to have that in my mind while knowing I have to take the bus home at midnight tonight.

Sorry that there wasn’t a flash fiction this Friday. Work was rough yesterday. There’s been a lot of changes where I work. Two managers got fired recently, leaving others only loosely in charge. Some with no experience. Don’t get me wrong, those old managers were out of their league. It’s likely better that they’re gone. But I don’t like to delight in others misfortune unless they’re fictional characters.

So, there’s understandably been chaos. Scheduling issues, leadership issues, changes here and there. Some for the better, others…

The new “manager” thought everyone knew that the restaurant is closing for 3-4 months for remodeling come Sept. Nope. No one knew. So, yeah, basically yesterday I discovered that in a couple months I’ve got to be on a job hunt again.

Also last night, a table walked out without paying and the “manager” made me pay for it out of my tips. $65. Now, I’ve looked it up and that’s not legal. Not to mention I was super mad. I didn’t work to the point of exhaustion yesterday to make nearly nothing.

My sister is getting married in Florida today, and I couldn’t afford to go.

So, between the stress and exhaustion, I didn’t have the ability to write it this week.

I’m revising my Kindle Worlds short story, and Orherworlders is being beta read. Hopefully I can get those two out soon and help supplement my income.

It’s a shame unemployment doesn’t take tips into account or I’d enjoy my impending layoff as serious writing time.

Bus blogging – back the other way

I’m off to my new job. The place is in a great location, yet is somehow struggling. Seems like I can only get hired at those kind if restaurants. I came so close to getting a job that would’ve let me pay off my all my debt in about three years. But alas, after a great interview with the GM, an ok second interview with the AGM, and a week and a half of them leading me on, I never heard back. Had my hopes so high on that one. My new job should at least still bring me in double what my old one did, I hope, just enough to actually pay my bills. It’s a start.      Continue reading →

Previously on Bus Blogging – Been Awhile

*****

Most of the time when I walk around my neighborhood, it’s to head to the bus. Occasionally I go out to eat with my guy, but not often. Whenever I walk down the street, I have my blinders on. My sunglasses are big, and help me not feel like I have to make eye contact with random strangers. I often do if I’m not hiding. I smile. Sometimes I feel pressured to say ‘hi’ when I’ve never seen that person before, and likely, will never see them again. As someone with social anxiety, I often don’t know what is exactly correct to do. I’m so awkward.   Continue reading →

It’s always a special treat to run for the bus after a bad day at work (monetarily), to have the person sitting directly behind you coughing violently and continually. Then the person behind them coughs… Great. I’m going to stay as far away from them as I can in this cramped bus. I’ll crouch over my phone and try to breath non-contaminated air. If there is such a thing in the bus. The small child sitting in front of me, who’s mother has purple hair, is covered in scrapes and bruises. But at least she seems in high spirits.     Continue reading →

I am currently somewhere over the ocean.  The Pacific ocean this.  I guess to get from Puetro Vallarta to Los Angeles, the quickest route is over water.  The flight attendant is putting up a screen between us regular people and the first class.  Although, to be honest, I think that I would fly first class if I could afford it.  Or business class.  Whatever they’re calling it these days.   Continue reading →

Hola! I’m blogging from Puerto Vallarta. Why am I here? Well, I’m on vacation with my boyfriend and a few friends from across the country. One set of friends is a married couple from Seattle. The other set is a newly dating couple from Austin (the girl is Russian and new to the group). Throw me and my boyfriend, from LA, who have been together just shy of two years, and I think that we might have the recipe for a romantic comedy.   Continue reading →

***I wrote this post a few weeks ago, but waited to post it until I either was or wasn’t called. I wasn’t.

My choices are not seemingly entirely thought out these days. For example, the bus is fairly empty, yet I chose to sit in front of the coughing elderly person. And once I commit to a seat, I don’t want to offend anyone by moving, so I stay put.   Continue reading →

Bus Blogging – Daydreams

Usually when I ride the bus, I listen to audio books. But today, I can’t stop thinking about my book. That, and the fact that the bus smells vaguely of crayons. Which is better than other things it could smell of, I suppose.

I’m almost 1/4 of the way through this round of revisions. I think ( probably naively so) that the really hard part is over. I created a lot of new content, and mixed in some of the old. But I’m now getting to the point where it’s still got a bit if new stuff, some breaking it apart and stitching it back together in different places, but mostly it’ll be polishing. With any luck, this is it. Unless someone is paying me to change things in the book (like a publisher) then hopefully this is the last draft that I’ll need to do.   Continue reading →

Bus Blogging – Sigh

The road to financial stability is a long one. As is the one the bus takes me home on. It takes roughly 45 min to comments via the bus. About 20 when I drive. Tonight I got off of work just in time to run and catch the bus. Glad I didn’t miss it. Turns out it was standing room only. Which, after a few hours on my feet at work and the sprint, wasn’t fun. I chose to go to the very back of the bus. As I did, it turned out I had walked past an empty seat by the window. The man stood up and promptly offered it to the woman behind me.
So I stood and waited. Continue reading →

Bus, job, Los Angeles, Pasadena, restaurant, work

Headed to my first real day of work. This far, it’s been all training. The restaurant opens tonight. So much that I will have to learn by doing. Scary and exciting.

My new position requires me to wear a little black dress. I’m meant to do my hair and make-up as if I’m going out. Classy tho, not over the top. I’m an odd site on the bus.

A strange thing just happened. The bus stopped for a minute and the bus drivers switched. The one that had been driving the bus got off, and a new driver had met up with him to take over. I haven’t seen that before.

This will be a short post. Too much other stuff to focus on. Have to learn table numbers and try not to panic.
