Last FFF: Introduction

Lumos

I woke up, face down in a clearing in the forest. I wiped the drool from my face as I regained my wits. The referees must have drugged me. I looked around, and saw two others still asleep, one male and female. I didn’t know how we all had come to be here. But I knew what it meant: my ticket had been called, and it was time to play.

This was the type of lottery that you hoped to never win. Continue reading →

Last Week’s FFF: asd

title

They began to gather days ago. Jut a few at first. I suppose that they were the most hungry. But in time, their numbers swelled. There were hundreds now, maybe thousands. And we couldn’t keep them out forever.

I watched from my vantage point as the horde became increasingly rowdy. They pushed, shoved, howled, and were becoming more agitated by the moment.

I envisioned the violence. These were supposed to be humans. People who were once neighbors now vying to get int, willing to do whatever was necessary.   Continue reading →

Last Week’s FFF: Grown

Razorclaw

This week’s prompt comes from Jonathan Dayton on the Terrible Minds Blog

Standing on the hill overlooking the warlord’s capital city, my hand rattled on the hilt of my sword as I felt feeble against the army of hill giants guarding the gates.

I let out a warrior’s roar as I unsheathed my blade.   I summoned all of my courage and ran at full speed, down the hill, and into the thick of the giants.   Continue reading →

Last FFF: What the Highway Prefers

title

Dead doesn’t always mean gone. Trust me on this, I’m something of an expert. I died sixteen years ago. Okay, so I suppose that’s not that long in the grand scheme of things. You could say that I’m something of a baby ghost. But believe me, you don’t want to meet the old ones. They’ve lost their minds. Or, what passes for a mind when you don’t have a physical body.

I miss my body and interacting with the physical world. Not that I can’t do it, I can if I try. I do it as little as possible. Not because I’m concerned with the effect of haunting people. Honestly, it sounds kind of fun.

No, I don’t interact with the physical world because it would kill me. Like, really kill me. I know what you’re thinking. I said I had died. It’s true. But there’s death, and then there’s nothingness.

Last Week’s FFF: Descended

Gist Rough Upr Exbold Two Demo

Deckland rolled his wrist around, grinding the joint together with an audible pop. With his left hand, he rubbed his right, massaging away the tightness in his muscles. He flicked his arm back and forth, returning the feeling to the limb.

Once renewed, he reached for the water canteen on his hip. Hands slick with sweat, he fumbled with the lid. He opened it, and held the container to his lips. He let the last trickle of hot water run into his mouth. He held it there for a long second, absorbing most of it with his parched tongue before swallowing.  Continue reading →

Last Week’s FFF: Hero Needed

title

The day had started like any other day. He awoke to the sounds of his dorm mates music around quarter to ten and made it to class by ten thirty. After that, he headed to the cafeteria for his normal slice of double decker pepperoni pizza and headed across the street from campus to eat in the park.  He often spent the time between classes there, drawing, walking, thinking, and today was no different. Sitting on his normal bench, he observed the world around, drawing the things that interested him.

Then she caught his eye. Continue reading →

The world was silent.  This time of day found most people in their homes.  Soon, they would be roaming the streets and commuting.  Soon, the guards would come and lower the bridge.   Continue reading →

Last Week’s SS: The First Fight

Dealt

Outside of the house was nearly pitch black, with only the waning moon overhead lighting the night.  The new moon would beginning tomorrow.  It’d be a new beginning for me, as well.  If I lived that long.  Tears streamed down my face as I ran from the house.  Just outside I saw dead soldiers.   Continue reading →

Last Week’s SS – Intruders

Dealt

Indecision overwhelmed my senses, and I could do nothing more then sneak another look into the room.  The man across from Victoria had his back to her and the guards.  He was inspecting our mantel.   Without turning, he spoke.  His voice was deep, but he spoke with a smooth, even tone.

“Did you find the girl?” he asked.

“She wasn’t in her room,” one of his men replied.

“Where is she?” he asked.

“I don’t know, sir.”

“I wasn’t talking to you.  I was talking to the Hierophant, if that is your real card.  Where is the child?”

“I don’t know about any child,” she said.   Continue reading →

With my shiny new friend at my side, the days got better. We became inseparable. He slept in my bed, woke with me, accompanied to do my chores, and sat with me during lessons. He fought at my side, or mock against me, for combat training.

The years flew by like hands on a clock. Each tick a day. My loneliness had been curved, so I set my mind to other ideas. I wondered what the future would hold for me.

“Some day you’ll have to face the Emperor,” Victoria would tell me.  Continue reading →
