(Isolation, Part 1)

Bright, yellow light filled the windowless room.  Ted raised his hand to shield his eyes from it’s brightness.  He waited anxious moments for someone to enter the room and tell him that the experiment was finally over.

As he waited, he was filled with both great relief and murderous rage.  It had been five hundred days since he’d last seen or talked to another person.   It wasn’t what he had signed up for.  Not exactly.  He wasn’t sure if he was going to hug or strangle whomever came through that door.   Continue reading →

Last Week’s WW: Telling it Straight, or Maybe Not

What?  You mean to tell me that the butler did it?  But, how?  I mean, the communist was standing right there, holding the laser gun, and he had every reason to do it, after all, the dead guy stole his dog!

Sometimes a story can use a little mystery, whether that’s your genre or not.  Twists and turns can make a story exciting.  They can refocus a character’s and a reader’s attention.  They can help make your story unique.  Continue reading →

Before being pushed against his locker, Ben could feel the imposing cloud and braced himself.

“Watch where I’m going, geek!” the hulk in the letter jacket yelled as he and his friends continued on.

Pressing his palms on the metal, Ben peeled himself off the cold surface. He ran his hands through his short hair and straightened his hoodie. The bullying had been a daily occurrence since he had transferred two weeks ago. Ben knew he was smarter than most, and true, he wasn’t athletic, but at his last school, that didn’t matter. He had never experienced the classic jock-nerd rivalry before moving here.    Continue reading →

“You’d better have a good reason for dragging me out of bed at 3 AM,” Jack barked indifferently to the situation room full of his coworkers, bosses, and subordinates.

“Glad you could join us, Agent Reiss.” If Jack had a direct boss, it would have been this man. Jack had a certain set of skills which allowed him to answer to no man, although, he did take suggestions more than orders whenever the situation called for it. “If you had bothered to show up for the briefing, you would know that we’ve had an abduction.”   Continue reading →
