Last Week’s WW: Resolutions

aLTCOVER

See that cover?  It’s got my fella‘s name on it.  This will be the first thing that he’s published, and I’m very proud of him.  But I didn’t just come here to brag.  I came to offer a little advice: Publish!

It’s not an easy thing to do.  Emotionally, any way.  Publishing a work means letting it go.  It’s putting it out into the world, hoping no one hates it, but accepting the possibility that they might, and being okay with it.  It’s understanding that something you created isn’t yours anymore.  It’s splitting open your chest and placing it’s contents out for all the world to see.  It’s you at your most vulnerable.

It’s also you at your strongest.  It’s showing the world and yourself what you can do.  It’s proving that you’ve created something from nothing.  It’s wearing your iron armor and walking otherwise naked into the streets.  You’re strutting your stuff, and you want everyone to look.

Okay, fine, we’re bleeding and naked and we feel okay about it, hopefully.  It still doesn’t answer the question: How do I publish? Continue reading →

Last Week’s WW: The Hardest Part

What a week.  I’ve been so busy and distracted that I’ve more or less lost track of what day it is. (as is evident from my missing a few days on here.)  But now, let’s get back on track.

Did you know that there are roughly 6,000 books published every single day?  I’m not sure on the exact numbers, but I think of those, less than half are fiction, and I’m sure that a great deal less are in your specific genre.  Still, that’s a lot of competition.  It’s no wonder that many people gather the courage to hit the publish button, and then nothing happens.  So how do you stand out?

Last Week’s WW: For Love or Money

Some people will tell you that writing the first draft of a book is the hardest part of the process.  Others will tell you that it’s doing revisions, or waiting for your book to finally come out.  Everyone has an opinion on which part is the hardest part, but in my experience, everyone is wrong.  Continue reading →

OTHERWORLDERS

It’s getting to be the last week for my novel on Kindle Scout.  If you haven’t nominated it yet, it would mean a lot to me if you could.  It’s getting down to crunch time, and I need all the support that I can get.

If you haven’t heard of Kindle Scout, here’s the gist:  It gives readers the opportunity to see the first chapters of never before published books. If you like it, nominate it! And if it gets enough nominations, then you’ve helped a book get published and you get a FREE copy of the ebook before it’s published, and a thank you from the author. And since it’s run by Kindle, you just use your Amazon log-in to vote.

It’s almost over, so nomination time is limited. I’d really appreciate it if you could check it out and nominate it if you like it. Spread the word about it if you really like it.  Thanks!!

Otherworlders on Kindle Scout!

Remember how I mentioned Kindle Scout in a couple weeks ago?  Well, my campaign has just gone live!  And, I need your help.  PLEASE nominate my book.  Here’s the link to Otherworlders.  I’d really appreciate it if you spread the word.  If you nominate my book, and it gets chosen, you get a free copy.  And I’d be so appreciative that if you nominate my book, and for some reason it doesn’t, I’ll still give you a free copy.  (you just have to let me that you nominated it, oh, and how to get a hold of you.  Hard to send things to people without contact info).

You might be asking, what’s Kindle Scout?  Well, it’s a new program that basically crowd-sources novels.  From what I understand, Amazon already does this with their original programming.  They make  a few pilots and let people vote on which ones they’d like to see as full shows.  This is the same principal.  You get to see a sample of the novel, and vote on if you’d like to see the whole thing.  There’s no hard and fast rules on how much attention will get a book published.  But I’m sure that as much as possible helps.

So, again, please Nominate and spread the word.   Let’s see if we can get me published!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I decided to collect some of my flash fictions, specifically the scifi ones for now, and compile them into a collection and put them up on Amazon for .99

I only recently did this.  But I was surprised when I checked on it today and discovered that I’m currently in the top 250,000 in all of Paid Amazon.  I didn’t do any advertising whatsoever, liter rally just hit publish and threw it out into the world.  I know, that’s still pretty far down the list.   But, it’s new.  And, there are millions of books on Amazon, so it’s kinda cool to be up there.  I don’t know if it’ll go up or down, but for now, I’m excited about that number.

Last MM: Kindle Worlds

I think that probably everyone has heard of Audible.  They advertise everywhere.  Their most recent commercial is a little racy I think.  They have a woman listening to some romance novel (apologies if I don’t know which one it is.  I don’t read that genre) throughout the course of her day, including while she is at work, and it’s talking about “riding a guy like a horse” and “unbuttoning” things.  But, that’s just a side note, because I think it’s funny.

Last Week’s WW: Where and How, Physically Speaking

Every author starts somewhere.  No matter how big, or how small, famous or flop, at some point, there is always a first book.  At some point, you have to gather all your courage, sign a contract or press the publish button, and send your story out into the world.  But is that enough?

So, I suppose it’s the end of the month.  Maybe I should be doing updates for May?  But I don’t really know what’s in store for next month.  I suppose, in a lot of ways, I live my life day to day.  A lot of the time I think it’d be better if I could plan for the future a bit more.  But, I guess there’s something to be said for living in the moment.  Right?
