Last Week’s WW: There Isn’t Always a Happy Ending

Displaying IMG_4367.JPG

At the beginning of this year, I set out to give publishing my all.  I tested the waters last year with my flash fiction collection, but this year I wanted to go full force.  What this meant was putting together a publication schedule.

The photo above is my publication schedule for my upcoming short story series – Sleep Saga.  It took some effort, but I worked with the dates to figure out how to stagger it so that I could get it done.  I’ll admit, I’m about four days late on getting my first story out to Beta readers.  (By the way, want to Beta Read for me?  Email me).  But I’m ahead on finishing the first drafts of my books.  So, I’ll call it even.

Writing it down gave me solid deadlines and a great guide for where I was and where I needed to be.  It also allowed me to prioritize, creating a list so that I knew what I needed to be doing while I different parts were in different stages.

I think that being organized and setting goals will help me achieve a lot this year.

Last Week’s WW: For Love or Money

Some people will tell you that writing the first draft of a book is the hardest part of the process.  Others will tell you that it’s doing revisions, or waiting for your book to finally come out.  Everyone has an opinion on which part is the hardest part, but in my experience, everyone is wrong.  Continue reading →

Otherworlders on Kindle Scout!

Remember how I mentioned Kindle Scout in a couple weeks ago?  Well, my campaign has just gone live!  And, I need your help.  PLEASE nominate my book.  Here’s the link to Otherworlders.  I’d really appreciate it if you spread the word.  If you nominate my book, and it gets chosen, you get a free copy.  And I’d be so appreciative that if you nominate my book, and for some reason it doesn’t, I’ll still give you a free copy.  (you just have to let me that you nominated it, oh, and how to get a hold of you.  Hard to send things to people without contact info).

You might be asking, what’s Kindle Scout?  Well, it’s a new program that basically crowd-sources novels.  From what I understand, Amazon already does this with their original programming.  They make  a few pilots and let people vote on which ones they’d like to see as full shows.  This is the same principal.  You get to see a sample of the novel, and vote on if you’d like to see the whole thing.  There’s no hard and fast rules on how much attention will get a book published.  But I’m sure that as much as possible helps.

So, again, please Nominate and spread the word.   Let’s see if we can get me published!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last Week’s WW: Cover Art and the New Amazon Publishing

As you probably already know, I love audio books.  In fact, I like them so much that I turned my book: 22 Short Scifi Stories into an audio book.  It is now live and available for sale on Audible and Itunes.  And, to celebrate this, I’ve got some FREE copies to give away.  So, if you want one, comment on this post, (or message me) and I’ll pick some people to give it to.  🙂

I used ACX (audiobook creation exchange) to make my book.  Continue reading →

Last Week’s WW: Don’t Let Draft Differences Get You Down

Which of these do you like best?  I’m going to submit Otherworlders to the new Kindle Publishing when it opens in a couple weeks.  I need a great cover.  If none of these are to your liking, let me know.  If you have suggestions for Otherworlders, that’d be great to hear about, too.

Amazon has recently announced that they will be accepting book submissions to be published by them.  This is different from self-publishing, or the publishing program that they already have.  Continue reading →

Last Week’s WW: Where and How, Physically Speaking

Every author starts somewhere.  No matter how big, or how small, famous or flop, at some point, there is always a first book.  At some point, you have to gather all your courage, sign a contract or press the publish button, and send your story out into the world.  But is that enough?

People can have a major role in how you turn out.  They may do this actively, or passively.  They may never even know that you exist or the impact that they’ve had on your life.  But they mold us.  There are those who give us hope, inspiration, and insights that we never would have seen otherwise.  They might be role models, significant others, parents, teachers, any one that had a hand in developing you.  Here are some of the ones that shaped me into the writer that I am today, and the one that I hope to be tomorrow.
