So I seeded the sky with story bubbles, and a cloud burst with words this morning.  I woke up, and while I was lying in bed, a scene unfolded in my brain.  Word for word.  I figured I should probably get up and write it down before it evaporated.  Below is an intro to my newest story.  It’s going to be a serialized fiction, and the first part is The Skyland.  If you like, then let me know.  If you hate it, then let me know.  Any feedback is appreciated.  And remember, this is just a quick first draft to introduce the concept.  Not sure that this scene will make the book as is.  Plus, I’m still working on characters, story arcs, and the outline.  I hope you enjoy!

My brother and I snuck up to the roof of our building to watch the storm. It wasn’t the tallest by far. Next door towered nearly twice as high. But it didn’t matter. Every structure had just about the same view. After all, we lived on an island in the sky. Affectionately referred to by a mash up of the two words, and called the Skyland.   Continue reading →

“You’d better have a good reason for dragging me out of bed at 3 AM,” Jack barked indifferently to the situation room full of his coworkers, bosses, and subordinates.

“Glad you could join us, Agent Reiss.” If Jack had a direct boss, it would have been this man. Jack had a certain set of skills which allowed him to answer to no man, although, he did take suggestions more than orders whenever the situation called for it. “If you had bothered to show up for the briefing, you would know that we’ve had an abduction.”   Continue reading →

This is one that I wrote with the help of my boyfriend adamvenezia.wordpress.com .  He prompted me, then I wrote it, then he rewrote it.  I think it’s a pretty successful compilation.  It was also what inspired my effort to improve my craft.   I think that this turned out well, and that everything I’ve written since has only gotten better and better.  Enjoy!

Nicholas rocked back and forth, crumpled on the floor. “I feel like my head is going to explode!” he said. “I’m going crazy here. I can’t stand all these voices.”

Randal poured a tumbler of Scotch from a glass decanter. He held it down to Nicholas and said “Here. This will help.”

“Make it stop,” Nicholas said.

Randal rattled the ice cubes around in the glass to get his attention. “My private vintage,” he said.

“Make it stop,” he said again.   Continue reading →

There it sat, silky and woven on the underside of the blue tarp, just like Charles had described. Martin leaned in close to get a better look at the tiny structure. Micro strands of fiber had been woven together to create an organic fence. Within the barrier sat the strange sack. With a bulb at the base, it tapered to a pointed top, with fragile support strings strung diagonally down it, connected to the tarp and the fence.

“What is it?” Martin asked, crossing his finger close to the structure.

Charles slapped his hand away.

“Don’t touch it!” Charles cautioned.   Continue reading →

So, I’ve decided to go back to work on Otherworlders. I’m going to give it at least a polish, maybe a whole third draft. I’m also considering starting a kickstarter to fund getting a professional edit done on it.

To get ready for that, and because hey, it’s fun, I made a trailer for my novel. I used photos of people that I’ve taken, combined with some stock photos of backgrounds, and compiled them. I also used some stock loops and composed the music. I then wrote and recorded the script. So if you ever wonder what my voice sounds like, here it is! Enjoy!!

This weeks challenge was a mash-up of genre’s.  I pulled Time Travel and Kaiju.  Enjoy.

Standing in the lab, Brady’s breathing became rapid as he stared at the device before him. It wasn’t what he expected. Instead, it was hardly large enough to fit a man his size, and colored a listless silver. His muscular chest rose and fell, and his solid frame rattled. Wearing a white coat, the scientist placed a consoling hand on his back. Swallowing hard, he took pensive steps forward, and stepped into the machine.

“Is this going to hurt?” he asked.

“I’m not really sure. I would assume so,” Dr. Stone answered as he checked the readouts.  Continue reading →

Here’s an idea I’ve been thinking about.  Still working on it.  But enjoy:

“Daddies?” asked Ella in her small voice from the backseat.

“Yes, baby?” the two asked in unison.  They gave each other a warm smile before Chad had to return his attention to the road.  How lucky they were, to have not only each other, but such a wonderful daughter.  She had kept herself relatively content so far during the drive, busing herself with her virtual finger painting.

“Daddies, where do babies come from?”

They grimaced when they heard the question that had sprung out of the blue.  It was something every parent dreaded.   Continue reading →

Today’s Flash Fiction is TV Tropes.  Random TV Trope, Darkhorse Victory.  1000 words.  Enjoy 🙂

Three full moons rose to their apex in the night sky.  It was high-midnight, and they reflected brightly.  The dusty city appeared all in greys, with only the most muted dark colors peeking through the gloom.  Masses of onlookers gathered at the windows of the tall buildings that towered over the clouded ground.  This was as close as they dare get.

In the haze of swept up earth, two warriors stood to face each other.  They opted for the protection of black ten-gallon hats.  They were more concerned about shielding their eyes from the ruminating moons than their heads from bullets.  After all, only one of them would come out of this alive, anyway.   Continue reading →

Disoriented, Kara stood naked in the scrub land. She turned in circles, letting her eyes adjust to the bright sun of this world. In the distance she could see the mass of people she had just left. Confusion seemed to be a common symptom from the journey. The guard that had been chasing her fell to the ground and began to vomit. Easily finding her land legs, she was handling the trip far better than him. Realizing this, she saw that it was her opportunity to get away. So she ran.   Continue reading →

Holding her notification in one hand, and a butcher’s knife in the other, Alyssa Lane carefully maneuvered a surgical mask over her face.  She prayed that the thin barrier would be enough to protect her from the airborne toxins outside.  She had stayed healthy this long, and cursed that she had to jeopardize her life in order to save it.   Continue reading →
