Last Week’s MM: An Unwelcomed Quest

In the beginning there was light, and it was good.  In the end, there was the apocalypse, and it was weird.

USA Today Best Selling Author Micheal Bunker is the father of the Amish Scifi genre.  But he isn’t stopping there.  Together with author Nick Cole, and a group of very talented authors, they’re taking indie-publishing to new places.  They’ve created what they’re calling a brand world.

Today they are launching 5, yes 5, novels set in the Apocalypse Weird universe.  The individual arcs of the stories will unfold to reveal a larger picture, with each book containing Easter eggs.

It all kicked off with The Red King (WYRD Book 1) by Nick Cole (free)

And today, it continues with:

Texocalypse Now (Digger Book 1) by Michael Bunker and Nick Cole
The Serenity Strain by Chris Pourteau
Reversal (Polar WYRD Book 1) by Jennifer Ellis
Immunity by E. E. Giorgi
The Dark Knight (WYRD Book 2) by Nick Cole

They plan to release a total of 25 novels this year.

It’s an ambitious project and a new way to bring writers together.

Also, if you’re a writer, check them out on Thridscribe.  There are opportunities to get involved.

And their launch party is happening right now!  Check it out, maybe get some freebies.

Last Week’s WW: For Love or Money

Some people will tell you that writing the first draft of a book is the hardest part of the process.  Others will tell you that it’s doing revisions, or waiting for your book to finally come out.  Everyone has an opinion on which part is the hardest part, but in my experience, everyone is wrong.  Continue reading →

Last Week’s WW: Where and How, Physically Speaking

Every author starts somewhere.  No matter how big, or how small, famous or flop, at some point, there is always a first book.  At some point, you have to gather all your courage, sign a contract or press the publish button, and send your story out into the world.  But is that enough?

Last Weeks WW – To Be, or Not to Be… Orriginal

***

You got through your first draft.  Congrats!  That’s amazing, and is possibly the single most important indication that you could actually take this crazy hobby to the next level and make a career as a writer.  Without this, none of the other steps to becoming published would even matter.  Continue reading →

I’ve been reading a lot recently.  Two stories that I have absolutely fallen in love with are the Wool series, and The Atopia Chronicles.   I can’t recommend these books enough.  Turns out that these two writers have much more in common than I ever knew.  From what I can tell, they were both released as serial short stories, they both are self-published, and both writers, Hugh Howey and Matthew Mather (respectively) have been very successful, selling rights to movies based on their works (Mather’s was for his other book CyberStorm).   Continue reading →

So many ideas – Serialized Fiction

So, I’m pretty excited about this idea of serialized fiction.  Writing several short stories, or one continuous story, broken into smaller pieces.  This would be for self-publishing purposes, ebook style.  I can see many benefits to this.

Release the first part, perhaps even for free, to get people interested, get some feedback…  Also, good way to build up a fan base (I hope!)  In addition, it’s easier to do a full revision and edit on 10,000 words than 100,000.  Plus, you can do a few different projects at the same time, or interspersed with each other.   Continue reading →
