Last Week’s FFF: Tender

Sound System Regular

In the Interworlds, I was a god. Better than that. I was a superhero. Not many players made it to my level. In fact, in the entire history of the Interworlds, almost ten years, there had been less than twenty.

Due to my super-player status, I was part of a league. The Heroes League. Not the most imaginative name. But trying to convince seventeen people who all thought that they were the best the Interworlds had ever seen to pick one name was impossible. Every single one of us wanted a say in naming it. Eventually, the Admins just had to go with something. Heroes League it was. Continue reading →

Last Week’s WW:  Plantser

Recently, there was a trailer released for the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron Movie.  While I don’t have any insight into the movie, I do have a few thoughts on writing characters that this trailer reminded me about.

If you’re unfamiliar with the plot: possible spoilers?   But I doubt it.

Last Week’s FFF:  Grue

title

I held the morning’s paper in my hands and read the headline. Plastered in bold type, it announced that twenty had died yesterday in a subway mishap. Well, can’t save them all. Still, I figured that with this sort of thing happening, there might be a drop in the need for my services. I quickly discovered that I was wrong.

Last Week’s FFF: Bird of Paradise

title

It all started with Kennedy. I think somewhere, deep down, everyone knew that he was different. When those bullets bounced off of him like kernel being popped, those suspicions were proved valid. My mother saw the whole thing. Sure, it was on television, not in person, but they didn’t have the same kind of movie magic that we’ve got now. She was just a child, but she knew what she saw. And she knew to be afraid.  Continue reading →

In this weeks flash fiction friday, I had to use a last line of a story as the first line of a new one.  Below is that story.  Enjoy.

* * * * *

“That plan didn’t fly, superhero, and now we’re short a bazooka.”

“Well, what do you expect?  I was only born four hours ago!” argued Hero.  Genetically designed and brought to life only this morning, he hadn’t been given a proper name.  Looking at him, one would expect that he had received only the best education, nutrition, and environment for the last twenty-five years.  He stood six feet tall, with dark brown hair and the build of an action star.

“I know that,” his commanding officer said, unsympathetically.  “But this is what you were made for.  We need to stop these monsters, and we need to do it now.  So if you don’t want to go back into that goop we pulled you out of, then use that freakish brain we gave you and figure out how to save the day.”   Continue reading →

First, let me start by saying that I love Superhero’s.  I am a nerd.  I can debate with the best.  I understand the arguments about why the Flash and the Hulk are considered to be the most powerful heroes.  My guilty pleasure is Superman.  But the point of this isn’t to get into the specific heroes and which are the best or why.

I want to talk about what I’d like to see in superhero movies.  I know that Origin stories are necessary.  What would we think if we just jumped into the middle of a story and saw Iron Man being a jerk to a kid?  We may think that he’s a bad guy if we hadn’t already learned to love him.  Or if we saw so many in their flamboyant costumes, running around putting themselves in danger, whether they had superpowers or fancy toys.  We have to know their motivations.   Continue reading →
